With a strong background in technology integration and sustainable infrastructure, James Donaldson leads CWWR Business Group’s technical initiatives, ensuring the development and implementation of cutting-edge wood waste recovery and energy conversion technologies.

James A. Donaldson is a seasoned waste management and environmental recycling leader with extensive experience in the wood recycling industry.

In the early 1990s, he played a key role in the start-up and development of one of Canada’s first sustainable Construction and Demolition (C&D) wood recycling facilities, Urban Wood Waste, in Vancouver, British Columbia. This pivotal career opportunity laid the foundation for James’ leadership in building several successful multi-million-dollar companies within Canada’s growing wood recycling sector.

As CEO of the Canadian Wood Waste Recycling Business Group (CWWR), James oversees daily operations, driving business development and member engagement. He works closely with existing and prospective members to identify specific waste wood challenges and implements tailored solutions, including feasibility studies, pilot projects, and the deployment of appropriate recycling technologies. James focuses on establishing sustainable recycled wood solutions and fostering essential “community reuse markets”, while also providing social media marketing and branding support to enhance the visibility of each member’s business in the Canadian Wood Recycling industry.

James is also a strong advocate for the formal recognition of the Canadian Wood Recycling industry as a federally regulated sector. He is actively working with Canadian governments to establish wood recycling as the country’s fifth stewardship program, alongside paper, electronics, paint, and tires. To achieve this, he calls for policy support, including financial investment and carbon offset systems, to accelerate industry growth.
